Below: Lord North, "If you had defended against the climbing (of the walls with ladders), he would not have taken Grenada from you." Response of the governor's wife: "My lord, we defended ourselves in vain, and then had to cede to Count d'Estaing." The governor's wife is depicted in a version of extreme late-1770s fashions (see File:Mlle Des Victoire coiffure à la Grenade 1779.jpg), with a version of a British ensign hanging down from the back of her hair. A fleur-de-lis banner hangs from the wall of the fortress.
