Diver Down est le cinquième album de Van Halen, sorti le 14 avril 1982 et produit, comme les précédents, par Ted Templeman. Un album diversifié, on y retrouve des morceaux typiques de Van Halen : Hang'em high, Secrets, et pas moins de cinq reprises : Where have all the good times gone (The Kinks), Pretty woman de (Roy Orbison/Bill Dees), Dancing in the street (Martha & The Vandellas/Marvin Gaye), Big bad Bill (is sweet William now) (Jack Yellen/Milton Ager), morceau jazz, rare chez Van Halen, dans lequel le père des frères Van Halen, Jan Van Halen joue de la clarinette, Happy trails (Dale Evans), chanté a cappella par les quatre membres du groupe.

L'album contient aussi des instrumentaux, comme Cathedral, Intruder et Little guitars (intro).
